advice please WHO - moving stuff from France
No, nothing to do with football or West Ham - apologies.

Here we go.

My car died and was scrapped in France late last year and I have to sort our moving the camping stuff from France back to the UK.

It'll more or less fill a transit.

Does anyone have any (sensible) solutions/advice for this. The big van hire companies want a fair bit of dough.

Thanks very much.

Hi Joe,

that's extremely decent of you - it's in Voiron (just north of Grenoble) i'd guess a bit too far east to be right in your route...?

cheers!

Re: advice please WHO - moving stuff from France
If you go the pallet route , make sure it is stacked correctly and wrapped securely. Pallets tend to topple over and if nor wrapped the carrier may refuse to collect it.

What sort of road do you live in?
Can you get a 7.5/18/26/artic truck down it?
Will you need a tail lift to get it on/off ?

Lorry drivers are by and large lazy buggers and would rather take it back to the depot where it gets forked off and you collect it rather than help out.

Not me of course.

Matty

What part of France how much stuff and when can you shift it?

I'm driving a truck back from Barcelona either Thursday or Friday next week and will be in Harlow the following Monday

If you can fly over , hire a van and get it to a service station it will cost you a cup of coffee and lunch at said services.

When sleep comes, eventual and long wrouğt, when after hours it does its medicine upon my waking day,
then do the real trials and terrible tribulations begin my way.

The sin

I recall then and welcome in all the ills of my ages and times, recollect under slumbers pall all the wrong i wrought on them all.

The din

The snapped bones, the churning groans, life ended pleas that beseeched in upon knees begged
my ears for murky mercies hand come and still my death girding hand.

It fed

Lurking always inside my within, this charnel chorus leaches grim
The garlands my ears like jewels are trimmed.

Studs pierced in and in and sin and grim
Death done quick, fierce, trim.

I've hired a transit van from Europcar and travelled through France, Belgium and Holland. Price wasn't too bad.

Alfie has shifted onto Saturdays when he was a Friday-night regular for years.

It's no big deal.

Alfie,

sweet - you're on shillings, dordogne, slappy tits - the works.

Are you in fact some futuristic super gentleman wag scoundrel from across time and space? Just living it up messsing with WHO-ers heeds between adventures from some your space-time capsule-cum vehicle cum passion wagon?

the mind is boggled

C.S. Forester novels ought to be banned from public libraries and general circulation.

Holmes: meet upon the spit at wapping pier at eleven and 30 minutes past it on the sabbath. If you value your posessions.

I captain a thames barge under the power of three horse. We will traverse the channel, sail up the river Dordogne from the Lens peninsula, disembark at the port of Nancy, take aboard your treasure and fire a cannonade into the defending french sloops harboured therein.

I have a crew of 15 violent reprobates and scurvy types thirsty for french blood and gold dubloons. Most of them have no teeth and tattoos that look like a blind simpleton drew them.

Lets fucking put it right up the french rotters and leave them in thrall at our piratical seamanship. When we get back we can roam about the pubs of london like nautical danny dyers, vaunting at the thrashing we dealt the bastards and how i personally whipped one of their eyes out with a cudgel

My price is eighteen shilling and a big jobbly pair of thamesdie whores tits slapping my face all night in a ribald wapping tavern

Cheers Spandex, we'll give that a whirl too.

Nurse and Pickle - you want to take this into the car park?

Alfie - great work as ever, best Tintin style plan (to date)

Seems Shipley do

https://www.shiply.com/

I got someone off there to bring a car down to Southampton from the highlands of jockland and it was less than half I would have paid to get it myself, saved me two days of my life and saved me putting about 500 miles on the motor.

Re: advice please WHO - moving stuff from France
I think the pallet idea is the best. Does Shipley do stuff like this?

Getting a quote from a lorry coming back anyway is by far the cheapest way to do this

Re: advice please WHO - moving stuff from France
Smuggle it all back in a shipment of onions and gauloise. Do this clad in a striped blue and white crew neck jumper, sporting a beret and emitting a ripe glottal pong of oniony armpit and genitals body odour that steals the breath away of all within a metre radius.

By masquerading in this way as a french native you will be able to conceal the ruse and sail through customs like a stealthy smuggler

Muslims aren't 'a race', Pickle. Just because they are different to you, it doesn't mean they don't deserve the basic courtesy of a fact check before you spout off in ignorance. You disgust me.
